Miner
Black-eared Miner
Drawn by Andrew 6H

Common Name : Black-eared Miner

Scientific Name : Manorina melanotis

Habitat :
Dense mallee woodland of Victoria.

Diet :
The Black-eared Miner mainly eats insects off the ground or from under loose bark but sometimes eats fruit or nectar.

Size :
It is about 250mm.

Danger :

Cutting down mallee scrub to make way for farms has reduced the safe areas for this bird.
Cross breeding with the Yellow Throated Miner has produced sterile offspring and meant that the Black-eared Miner is nearly extinct.
