organised by Cannelton Elementary School in Indiana, USA
and Primary School De Wadden of Haarlem, Netherlands.


Blue Whale

Common Name : Blue Whale

Scientific Name : Balaenoptera musculus

Habitat :
Blue Whales prefer the deeper, colder oceans but sometimes come to the coastal waters of Australia.

Diet :
Eats about 4tonnes of krill a day.

Size :
It reaches a maximum size of around 34m and weighs 80 to 130tonnes.

Danger :

The species were almost wiped out by mechanised whaling but by 1967 the species were protected. There were hardly enough left to find partners to breed and it will take until the 22nd century for the species to be out of danger.
