Name of Forest: Cathedral Grove Provincial Park
General information
Cathedral Grove Provincial Park is a
beautiful old growth forest of Douglas Firs, some of which are over 800 years old.
During the Christmas holidays, this area had an incredible
snowfall - a record I believe.
Our beautiful old growth forest Cathedral Grove, was then hit by hurricane force winds - also very unusual in our part of the world. Those beautiful old trees were decimated and the park has been closed to visitors ever
since because of the danger of snags, and pathways blocked etc.
The clearing effort is almost complete but we were unable to go on our fieldtrip. Needless to say, with more open spaces between them the old trees are even more vunerable to the elements.
